Just got my copy of Fader 64 and it features an amazing article/interview with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. The article puts a lot of perspective into his work on For Emma, For Ever Ago and Blood Bank EP. Vernon appears to be a true artist who lives his work through rather than just puting out what is pleasing to others. If you have the chance, spend the money on Fader 64, you won't be dissapointed.

The new album is cutting and moving, a lot harder than their previous releases but a much mature step from Deja and Your New Favorite Weapon. Japandroids, Post-Nothing (Polyvinyl). The first time I threw this album on I listened to it through 3 times. The last time an album caught my focus and made me constantly play it over and over again was No Age's Nouns. New Matt and Kim add campaign

I know I have been on a Matt and Kim high lately with my posts but they are on fire right now. I am not too sure how the managed to pull this one off but someone got a banner on the Empire State Building in NYC, way better technique than some handbills outside of a club.

Matt and Kim's music video for "Lessons Learned" off of their album Grand was just nominated for a VMA this week. Although I think the VMA's are nearly unwatchable, I like to see decent artists get nominated and win. The Breakthrough Video catagory this year is full of a bunch of amazing artist (YYY's, Passion Pit, Bat for Lashes) which is very exciting to see.
"Lessons Learned" is a slow motion play of Matt and Kim in running through New York City, stripping their cloths in the cold winter until they eventually end up in Times Square. There really is nothing more risky then causing a scene in Time Sqaure especially when you are naked and it is damn cold out. Props to Taylor Cohen and Otto Arsenault for directing the video and props to Matt and Kim for being so self confident that they could pull this off.

This was a strange playlist, rarely do I play hip hop especially Top 40 hip hop but for one reason or another I played "Ready for Whatever" by T.I. Lyrically this song is amazing, for a few weeks I blamed any events on the fact that I "had straps in my ride." If I needed groceries, "I got straps in my ride, going to the store." Good times. I also played "Neo Violence" by Tough Alliance, one of my all time favorite songs. TTA are so damn tough and threatening while at the same time Swedish and romantic.l If you are ever in the need to find new great music, go no further than Sincerley Yours, its the record company owned by the two guys from TTA.

Here is an old playlist from last fall, man music moves fast! That "Matador Singles" collection from Jay Reatard was heat! We first got the album right around CMJ and it was all I listened to for about a month, I loved how raw and catchy his singles could be and at the same time be graphic and brutaly honest. In the past I have used a myspace (myspace.com/milkshakeswitheli) to write about my show or anything music related. It has now come to my attention that myspace is mostly a pain in the ass and frustrating to use so this is the new Milkshakes with Eli blog. I will be updating it with band interviews, new tracks, videos, my playlists and really anything else that I feel like. This will be the spot to check for contests and events that I am a part of. Since my show isn't running until the first week of September I amjust going to throw my old blogs on here and some other updates fairly regularly.
